Day Thirty-Six- Modifying Workouts

So I started back on my week after my free day, and I had to unfortunately skip the gym. The power company was on our street- blocking my driveway fixing a post that had a transformer on it. The snowstorm that we just had made the post start to lean over and all of the neighbors around us were worried because of it falling completely over. So the power company had two big trucks and then their regular truck on our street, fixing that post. And they were blocking my driveway.

In the past, I would typically say, "Oh, well. Maybe I will go tomorrow," but I knew that if I did that, it would start that downward spiral of missing 1 day to missing 2, then after a while missing weeks & months. This time- no excuses!!! So I decided to go downstairs in our basement and walk on the treadmill, but hearing the kids screaming and laughing outside, I decided that I wanted to join them. So I threw on my snow clothes and went outside.

They were sledding down the hill, so what better way to get a workout in than to push the kids down the hill in our backyard, then truck down the big hill, grab the sled and carry it back up the hill and start all over again. after 45 minutes into climbing the sled up and down, my legs were burning, and when I came up the hill the last time, the kids said that they could see the steam coming off of my shoulders. I was panting- boy did my legs hurt.

Now typically I would go inside, and crash for the rest of the day, but instead, I got in the shower, got dressed and spent the rest of the day having a fun day with my kids, going to the movies, meeting their dad for lunch, and hanging out with one of my sons playing the Wii.

Looking back on the last 36 days and before, I know that my hang up has always been how am I going to stay committed to working out while raising 3 kids, my husband and I owning our own business and running that business. But now being here 36 days I have learned that for me to do the best that I can do for my family and our business, taking 30 mins. to an hour a day for myself is not a huge detriment for my family & business, but has been a great benefit to both of them.

For our business- it has helped keep my focus on the things that I need to do for our business. When I am on the treadmill or lifting weights, I have been able to have a clearer head to think of things to better our business. Also, to be successful with your career, commitment and follow through makes working at career that you do makes you successful. And knowing that I can commit & follow through in working out everyday and making a conscious effort to eat right & be healthy, it only solidifies that any challenge that comes my way, I know I can do it.

For my family- the changes that I have made with what I eat and exercising has carried down to my family. My kids are starting to see a change in my physical appearance as well as emotional. They have noticed that I am more happy, I have more energy to do things with the kids. They are noticing that I am making food changes & they are also being conscious of what they eat and how much. As parents, we set the example of how our children will be as adults. And what is more rewarding than to know that my kids will make conscious choices for food and know the importance of staying healthy through good food choices and exercise. And I am setting that example.
